Party Canceled: Spotted Fever Concerns

by Archynetys Health Desk

The community of the district of Morro Vermelho, in Caeté, in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte, was prevented from holding the event “Cavalhada Mirim” in celebration of Our Lady of the Rosary, this Saturday (4/10). The prohibition had already been determined after a lawsuit made by the Public Prosecution Service of Minas Gerais (MPMG)on Friday (3/10), on the grounds of “risks to public health, especially for the possibility of spreading the spotted fever”. The city has already recorded two deaths from the disease and suspended classes as a preventive measure.

The decision was filed against the municipality of Caeté and the association of local horsepower breeders and admirers. The agency also said in the preliminary decision that the event “involves direct contact between humans and large animals, in areas of dense vegetation, without proof of adequate sanitary measures”. The action also claims absence of transparency by municipal management.

The impediment, however, generated revolt among the residents, who stated that the animals in question were “wooden horse”, toys made of wood, plastic and decorated by the children. They said the injunction arrived at the organizers 15 minutes before the party, when the little ones were already dressed, and the stalls, assembled.

The spotted fever manifests itself through the bite of a parasite -infected tick found in horses, oxen and other animals.

A resident, who declined to identify herself, witnessed the confusion and reported the disappointment of children and the general public. “I found a lack of respect for the community, based on a liar information. In the same event there is a blessing in the Square Square San Francisco; not even the mass wanted to do,” he said.

In a note, the City Hall confirmed that the “cavalhada” mentioned is, in fact, a children’s event with wooden horses, without the presence of large animals.

“However, following the prosecutor’s recommendation, the city notified the organizers, advising that if there were large animals in the vicinity, the event should be canceled as a preventive measure related to spotted fever,” explained the executive.

Another canceled event

Another event that MPMG requested the cancellation was the “Tram of the Beasts”, scheduled for this Sunday (5/10). The show, promoted by the association at Clube do Horse, is proposed “Forró e Piseiro” at Clube do Horse, in downtown Caeté.

The Public Prosecution Service also requires, as an urgent basis, the revocation of the sanitary permits of the events. The action also asks that the association of horses’ breeders and admirers present, within 24 hours, documents that prove the health regularity of the events of the events, which includes dedetization, animal inspection and prevention measures.
