With the motto “Joining efforts for better health in Latin America”, on February 25 and 26, 2026, in Lima, Peru, the First Latin American Congress of Dairy Nutrition was held, an event that brought together experts, scientists and authorities from across the region to address challenges in nutrition and public health.
The congress focused on the role that dairy products can play in a healthy and sustainable diet, overcoming myths and misinformation to enhance their contribution to the health of all generations.
Organized by the U.S. dairy community in collaboration with the NutriLact Scientific Advisory Committee and the Peruvian Ministry of Health, the conference featured world-class speakers and interactive sessions that addressed topics from nutrition in pregnancy and childhood to the prevention of cardiometabolic diseases and nutritional deficiencies.
“This congress promotes the development of evidence-based nutrition policies, bringing together researchers, policy makers and professionals committed to practical solutions to improve the health of our population,” said Jaime Castañeda, co-president of the organizing committee.
Lic. Elsi Ovelar, general director of the National Institute of Food and Nutrition (INAN) of Paraguay, represented the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare, highlighting the importance of this meeting to strengthen public policies and food programs in the region.
