Panathinaikos vs Žalgiris: Legionnaire Lineup Preview

by Archynetys Health Desk

“Panathinaikos” coach Ergin Ataman has decided not to register Cedi Osman and Kenneth Farid for the Greek League match.

The Turk and the American remained behind the six legionnaires, Kostas Sloukas will not play either.

They all played in last Friday’s EuroLeague defeat to Olympiakos Piraeus, but Sloukas is now reported to be suffering from a problem with his left knee.

“In the next few days, it will become clear whether he will be able to play in the match against Kaunas “Žalgiris”, writes gazzetta.gr.

E. Ataman registered six foreigners for Sunday’s match against “Iraklis”: TJ Shorts, Richaun Holmes, Nigel Hayes-Davies, Jerian Grant, Kendrick Nunn and Juancho Hernangomez.

Two more “Panathinaikos” foreigners are not among the eight registered legionnaires for the Greek league: they are Marius Grigonis and Mathias Lessort.

The latter French midfielder has recently been treating an injury, and M. Grigonis has recently lost the coach’s trust.

After a back injury treated last season, the 31-year-old from Kaunas has not yet shown his former athletic form – he collected 7.8 points in four games in the Greek League, and scored 0.5 points in 5 minutes in 12 games in the Euroleague.

Recently, M.Grigonis has not been registered in the Euroleague either, although there is no limit of legionnaires when registering twelve players for a match.

“Panathinaikos” season is not going easily.

The Greek super club, which became the Euroleague champion in 2024 with M.Grigonis, now occupies the second place in the local championship, and shares 9-10 positions with “Monaco” in the Euroleague.

Kaunas “Zalgiris” has more victories and occupies the sixth place.

The confrontation between “Panathinaikos” and “Žalgiris” will take place in Athens on Thursday from 22:00.
