Panama Oropouche Virus: 600+ Cases Reported

In Panama, the national head of epidemiology at the Ministry of Health, indicated that more than 600 cases of Oropouche virus disease had been recorded to date throughout the country, leading to a strengthening of prevention and control efforts.

He explained that the first cases were detected at the end of last year and the beginning of this year, corresponding to a variant introduced across the border with Colombia.

To date, 613 cases have been confirmed nationally, distributed as follows: Darién, 312 cases; Eastern Panama, 275 cases; Veraguas, 17 cases; Metropolitan Panama, 4 cases; North Panama, 2 cases; Western Panama, 2 cases; and Coclé, 1 case.
