A challenging weekend at Road America saw the NTT IndyCar Series field face hot conditions and a series of on-track incidents.

Despite the chaos, Alex Palou and the no. 10 Chip Ganassi racing team demonstrated their resilience, returning to form in a dominant display.

Palou navigated the race cleanly in his No. 10 Honda, capitalizing on the misfortunes of other drivers and managing fuel effectively to secure Sunday’s XPEL Grand Prix victory. This marks the Spaniard’s sixth win, reasserting his dominance in the championship after atypical results at Detroit and world Wide Technology Raceway.

“It was a crazy race for us,” Palou acknowledged. “At moments I thought we were losing a ton of positions, then we were making (spots). It was a tough race for everybody.

“Kudos to the team for the amazing strategy. And Honda, man. HRC. Being able to give us the fuel mileage we needed to make it.”

Despite qualifying second, Palou faced early challenges, dropping outside the top five due to aggressive maneuvers from competitors. A subsequent incident with Will Power further complicated his race.

However, Palou steadily progressed, capitalizing on incidents involving Power and Kyle Kirkwood, as well as a braking error by josef Newgarden. He skillfully overtook both Newgarden and his teammate scott McLaughlin.

A timely caution, triggered by a crash involving Newgarden with 25 laps remaining, proved crucial. This occurred after Christian Lundgaard and others had pitted, enabling Palou to strategically conserve fuel and extend his stint to the finish.

Even then, Palou wasn’t promptly in the lead. Scott Dixon, his teammate, briefly led before needing to pit with 17 laps to go, hoping for another caution that never materialized.

From that point on, palou controlled the race, ultimately crossing the finish line 2.1725 seconds ahead of Felix Rosenqvist, securing a triumphant return to his winning form.
