Oretania of Poets Celebrates the Power of Words in Almodóvar del Campo

A vibrant gathering of poets, musicians, and artists convened at the Palmero museum, celebrating the enduring legacy of art and the written word.


A Springtime Symphony of Art and Poetry

the Palmero Museum in Almodóvar del Campo transformed into a haven for lyrical expression as the XVII Oretania of Poets unfolded. This event, a collaborative effort between the Oretania group and the Association of Friends of the Palmero Museum and Cervantino Center (AMPACE), drew a significant crowd eager to immerse themselves in a party of poetry, music, and art.

Held within the welcoming walls of the Palmero Family Pinacoteca, the cultural event embraced the theme The time of the word, also the title of a new anthology featuring the works of 28 participating poets. the event masterfully blended tradition with contemporary perspectives, creating a unique and enriching experience for all.

Bridging Generations Through Artistic Expression

The event commenced with opening remarks that emphasized the spirit of the gathering. Silvia Palmero,president of AMPACE,welcomed attendees,highlighting the importance of time as a connecting thread between the artistic heritage of her grandfather,Alfredo Palmero,and the modern vision of her grandson,freddy. This intergenerational dialog underscored the enduring power of art to transcend time.

Palmero emphasized the intrinsic link between painting and poetry, a sentiment echoed by other speakers. The musical contributions of singer-songwriters Vicente Castellanos and María de Toro were also lauded, adding another layer of artistic depth to the event. The collective message was an invitation to embrace the present, while transforming the past into a vibrant future through artistic endeavors.

Community Support and Cultural Promotion

Virginia López, Councilor for Culture, expressed her delight at the event’s return to Almodóvar del Campo, extending gratitude to the organizers, including Julio criado. She also acknowledged the crucial role of AMPACE in promoting culture within the town, in partnership with the City Council. López further paid tribute to the late Almodóvar poet Carlos Baos Galán, who passed away three years prior in Pamplona.

Mari Carmen Cervera, an AMPACE coach, framed the event within the context of the III Palmer Day, honoring Alfredo Palmero’s unwavering dedication to his artistic goals. She encouraged attendees to pursue their dreams and cherish life, citing examples such as Fran López del Castillo, who found strength in art while battling cancer. This personal touch added a layer of emotional resonance to the celebration.

Reflections on Time and Poetic Inspiration

Diana Rodrigo, who wrote the prologue for the anthology, captivated the audience with her reading, a poetic exploration of time. Drawing upon Greek mythology, she distinguished between Cronos and Kairos, urging listeners to fully immerse themselves in the verses of the anthology as a means of experiencing life more intensely. Her words served as a powerful introduction to the poetic journey that followed.

Luis Díaz-Cacho, a key figure in the Oretania of Poets since its inception in 2009, began by posthumously honoring Manolita Espinosa, a recently deceased essayist, writer, and poet from Almagro.He expressed gratitude for the support of various institutions and emphasized the importance of collaboration between social and associative groups in fostering culture, as exemplified by the partnership with AMPACE. Díaz-cacho concluded by encouraging attendees to live life with passion and to treasure time as an invaluable gift.

A highlight of the event was the recognition of Julián Camacho Morejudo, head of the Imás Media group, which includes Imás Televisión and Onda Zero Puertollano, for his dedication to promoting the city of Ciudad Real.Pepe J. Galanes, a photographer and recipient of the previous year’s award, presented Camacho with a plaque crafted by Graci Arias and Ángel Leal of Alfar Arias and the Potter Center the Station. The award acknowledged Camacho’s commitment to culture, poetry, and the written word, as well as his sensitivity and professionalism in showcasing the creative talent of the province through his media outlets.

In his acceptance speech, Camacho expressed his gratitude for being in such a creative habitat and reaffirmed Imás Media’s commitment to promoting local culture, which he believes provides opportunities for programs featuring poets and artists.

A Showcase of Provincial Lyricism

the second half of the event was dedicated to the poets, who shared their compositions from the anthology The time of the word. Interspersed between the readings were musical performances by Vicente Castellanos and María de toro, who accompanied their melodies with guitars. The participating poets included Miguel Galanes, Eloísa Pardo, Francisco Jesús López, Mari Carmen Matute, Ramón Aguirre, Teresa Sánchez laguna, Luis Romero de Ávila, Charo Bernal, Juan José Guardia Polaino, Pilar Serrano, Santiago Romero de Ávila, Elisabeth Porrero, Jesús Lara, Yolanda de la Cruz, Aarón Guard Raquel Aranda, Marciano Sánchez, Natividad Cepeda, Juan camacho, present Pérez, vicente Castellanos, Pilar Valentín and Luis Díaz-Cacho.

Although unable to attend, Antonia Cortés, jesús Sánchez Rivas, María Antonia García de León, and María José Redondo (Mayu) are also featured in the anthology. Gema Pérez Pinto concluded the recital with her poem Palmer, melody of brush, a fusion of the legendary painter’s art with the world of poetry.
