Finding the Commander’s safe key in The Outer Worlds 2 opens the way to lockpicks, money, and a permanent buff, so it’s best to collect it as soon as you can. All this loot is obtainable from the Commander’s safe inside the Commander’s cabin, a.k.a. your cabin —you are the Commander of The Incognito, after all.

To find the Commander’s key, enter your spaceship, The Incognito. Leave the cockpit and walk downstairs. Pass through the doors on the opposite side of this area, leading into the engine room.
See the massive engine with the yellowish glow? Behind it, on the ground, you’ll find the Commander’s safe key.
To open the Commander’s safejust walk back to the large open area, head upstairs, and enter the cabin. The layout has slightly changed, but as you may remember, you also had to enter your cabin just before The Outer Worlds 2’s prologue mission, when the door was barred. Following the game’s prologue, the Commander’s safe will become available inside this room, next to the computer.
Note that you don’t have to find the Commander’s safe key as you may also open the safe by passing a skill check. This will require Lockpick level 4 and a mag-pick (lockpick) item.
Inside the Commander’s safe, you will find the Eva Wierzbicki tossball card320 bit cartridges, two bypass shunts, two mag-picks, and some HP-restoring drinks. The tossball card automatically adds +1 toxicity crash threshold to your character’s permanent buffs.
