– I didn’t dream of it, I never wanted it, says actress Melissa Leo about winning the Oscar for best supporting actress in “The Fighter” in 2011.

In an interview with The Guardian, she explains that she had a “much better life” before the statuette became hers.

The New York Post refers to the “Oscar curse“, where several actors believe that their careers have gone down the drain after receiving the Oscar.

Among others, Halle Berry (59) and Gwyneth Paltrow (53) are said to have experienced this, according to the American website.

Leo believes that her career fell into disrepair after the award, precisely because she is said to have only been offered roles as “older, nasty women”.

After the Oscars, Leo has still been seen, and she has appeared in, among other things, “The Clean Up Crew” from 2024, “The Equalizer 3” from 2023 and the mini-series “I Know This Much Is True” from 2020 with Mark Ruffalo (58).
