Orlando City Set to clash with Portland Timbers in Cross-Conference Matchup

Orlando City will host the Portland Timbers at Inter&Co Stadium this Saturday night in their only scheduled meeting of the 2025 season. Both teams are coming off U.S. Open Cup losses and are looking to get back in the win column.
A Look Back at the History Between Orlando City and Portland
Orlando City holds a 3-1-2 regular-season record against the Portland Timbers since joining Major League soccer (MLS). In all competitions, the Lions are 3-2-2 against the Timbers, and they have a 2-0-0 record when playing at home in this series.
The last match between these teams occurred on March 27, 2022, at Providence Park, resulting in a 1-1 draw. Junior Urso scored for Orlando city in the second half,and the team had a man advantage after Josecarlos Van Rankin received a second yellow card. The Timbers are also playing their third match in eight days, having lost 1-0 in extra time to San Jose in the U.S. Open Cup. Portland’s most recent league match was a 1-1 draw against the Seattle Sounders. The Timbers are fourth in the Western Conference and have a 3-2-2 record on the road.
Portland’s attack features multiple players who can score, including Felipe Mora (five goals), Antony (four goals, seven assists), Kevin Kelsy (four goals), and Santiago Moreno (four goals). David da Costa also has seven assists.
Orlando will need to overcome fatigue and defend against Portland’s diverse attack.They will also need to capitalize on their scoring opportunities, as the Timbers have conceded 20 goals this season.
Pareja said,”Portland is a team that has been growing in this season. We don’t play in the same conference, but we have seen their growth lately.The preparation has been intense for us in such a short period of time.Knowing that they [Portland] have that game model that has been growing lately. We respect them and we’ll be ready.”
Orlando will be without Wilder Cartagena, Nico Rodríguez, and Yutaro Tsukada due to injury, while Eduard Atuesta and Gustavo Caraballo are questionable. The Timbers will be missing Diego Chara, Zac McGraw, and James Pantemis, with Jonathan Rodriguez questionable.
