Archynetys.com – May 5, 2025

The German government is doubling down on its commitment to organic agriculture with a new initiative designed to foster innovation and collaboration within the organic food processing sector. This move aims to strengthen rural economies and promote sustainable food systems.

Boosting Organic Food production Through Collaboration

Germany’s Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) has launched the “practice Network Organic Processing,” a program designed to connect organic farms and processing facilities, fostering innovation and providing a platform for knowlege sharing. The initiative, a key component of the Organic Strategy 2030, aims to bolster the entire organic value chain, from farm to table.

The program has already selected its first cohort of 60 practice partners, with a total of 80 expected to participate. These partners represent a diverse range of businesses, showcasing the breadth and dynamism of the organic processing landscape in Germany.

A Diverse Network of Organic Processors

The participating companies span the spectrum of organic food processing, from small-scale family farms to large cooperative dairies. traditional craft businesses, modern milling operations, and innovative startups are all represented. Many of these businesses prioritize sustainability, quality, and regional value creation.

State Secretary of the BMEL, Silvia Bender, emphasized the importance of this initiative:

With the practice network organic processing, we implement another vital component of the organic strategy 2030: We strengthen the value chain from the processing-where daily handicrafts, knowledge and innovation spirit is being promoted. The participating companies show how diverse and future-proof the organic processing in Germany is-and what role it plays for a sustainable nutritional economy.

“From Practice for Practice”: Sharing Knowledge and Inspiring the Next Generation

The Practice Network Bio Processing, supported by the federal program for ecological agriculture (BÖL), will run until at least April 2028. The core principle of the network is “From Practice for Practice,” meaning that participating companies will share their expertise and experiences with others in the industry through workshops, operational discussions, and specialist events.

The network aims to address various aspects of organic processing, including transitioning to organic practices, implementing innovative processing techniques, and establishing regional value chains. A key objective is to inspire young people to pursue careers in the organic food sector, highlighting the opportunities available in organic bakeries, mills, and other processing facilities. The program will target vocational schools and other educational institutions, showcasing the diverse and rewarding career paths within the industry.

This initiative comes at a time when consumer demand for organic products is steadily increasing.According to recent data, the organic food market in Germany has seen consistent growth, with a important portion of consumers actively seeking out sustainably produced and processed foods. This trend underscores the importance of supporting and expanding the organic sector to meet growing demand.

Looking Ahead: Eco-Field Days and Online Resources

The Practice Network Organic Processing will be present at the nationwide Eco-Field Days in 2025, held at the Canitz water estate. Attendees can visit the BÖL tent to learn more about the initiative and connect with participating companies.

Further details about the participating companies and their offerings will be available on the website www.oekolandbau.de starting in June 2025.
