India Launches Operation Sindhu to Evacuate Nationals from Iran

The Indian government has initiated “Operation Sindhu” to evacuate Indian nationals from Iran amidst escalating tensions between Israel and Iran [[2]], [[3]].
A flight carrying 290 Indian students, primarily from Jammu and Kashmir, arrived at the Delhi Airport late Friday, June 20, 2025. Two additional flights are expected to land later tonight, including one from Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, around 3 am, bringing approximately 1,000 Indian nationals home.
The evacuation follows days of aerial bombardments and retaliatory strikes between Iran and israel. On Thursday, June 19, 2025, 110 Indian students were evacuated via Armenia and Doha before reaching Delhi.

In a gesture of support,iran opened its airspace to facilitate India’s evacuation efforts. Students were initially moved to Mashhad from Tehran, with the flights operated by an Iranian airline and coordinated by indian authorities.
