Opera & Medicine: Alceste at LMU Clinic Großhadern

by Archynetys Entertainment Desk

Until September 13th, a performance takes place every Friday and Saturday, organized by the Ensemble Opera Incognita. The team stages an opera every year in an unusual place: venues were already the Palace of Justice and the Müller Volksbad.

For the 20th anniversary, Opera Incognita lists the opera “Alceste” by Christoph Willibald Gluck in the LMU Clinic, and the ensemble once opened its program with an opera by Gluck. The choice of location is no coincidence, because the ancient legend is about the questions of human existence and the fight against illness and death: King Admetos is dying. When the oracle is asked whether there is no rescue for the king, the gods announce their judgment: the king remains alive when someone else dies of Admetos’ position. Against the bitter resistance of her husband, Queen of Alkestis decides to go to death for her husband.

“I am really looking forward to the next weekends, because we not only get the opera to the LMU Clinic, we also give medical space an artistic face for a short time, an exciting moment,” says Prof. Markus M. Lerch, medical director and CEO of the LMU Clinic.

The performances will take place on the next three weekends (August 29, August 30, 5, September 6, September 12th and September 13th). Tickets can be bought via Munich ticket.

There will be further insights into the performance on this page.
