OpenRock Link 20: Wireless Open-Ear Headset for Work & Play

by archynetyscom

Open-ear innovator OpenRock has announced the launch of its new Link 20 Bluetooth headset, which is designed to merge professional-grade communication with the kind of everyday lifestyle convenience many of us have grown used to. The company believes the Link 20 could redefine how people experience headsets in both professional and working life.

Traditional old-school communication headsets often lag behind developments in the consumer sector. Corporations can be notoriously conservative when it comes to specifying headsets for use in call centers.

Many enterprise headsets are bulky and can cause ear fatigue. They often cause wearers to feel isolated due to the lack of ambient awareness. Another perennial problem is fragile build quality. A call-center headset gets more punishment than a boxer in the tenth round of a fight.

To counter these issues, the OpenRock Link 20 has been designed to eliminate the traditional pain points in headset design by opting for a minimalist and open-ear design. Each of the Link 20 earbuds weighs just 9g and has a detachable and interchangeable magnetic boom microphone.

Key Innovations

With the introduction of its Nebula App, OpenRock says its new Link 20 has evolved beyond a headset to become a real-time language assistant. From global meetings to classroom lectures, the Link 20 can provide instant translation as well as seamless device switching — all through a single smart system. Users just need to download the Nebula App, enter an activation code and unlock access to Open Rock’s AI translator.

The Link 20 has a magnetic boom mic can be easily attached to either ear, depending on the wearer’s preference. This flexibility can go some way towards preventing long-term discomfort associated with wearing a mic on only one side.

Using N54 magnets and a six-layer alloy plating, the boom mic attaches securely and has been tested for more than 10,000 attach and detach cycles. Users also get an instant audio alert if the mic is connected or disconnected.

AI Noise Cancellation

The headset also has a five-microphone AI ENC system, which means the Link 20 can filter out around 99.9% of background noise giving a noise reduction of 58dB for clearer communication in busy call centers, outdoor spaces or when on the go.

The Link 20 supports the latest Bluetooth 6.0 and can connect to two devices with seamless switching between them. That means you could be listening to a training video on one device and a call comes in on the other, the user can easily switch to take the call and then switch back again. Thanks to the use of Bluetooth 6.0. the Link 20 has ultra-stable signal transmission and a wireless range of up to 50 feet indoors and 99 feet outdoors.

Life isn’t all about work, sometimes we like to kick back and listen to music or watch a movie. Lots of business headset manufacturers are recognizing this reality and designing their headsets to work for business and pleasure. The Link 20 is no exception and can produce a fulsome sound whether the user is watching a movie or streaming music.

Nine Hours Of Talk Time

Without its boom mic fitted, the Link 20 can operate for up to 13 hours of continuous music playback and around 9 hours of talk time on a single charge of the built-in battery. With the charge in the storage case, the music playing time is extended to a total of 52 hours and the talk time is around 36 hours. A quick 5-minute burst can deliver an hour’s emergency talk time.

The Link 20 has been designed with a 6.9° ergonomic tilt, uses liquid silicone materials as well as a three-point pressure distribution system. The result, says Open Rock, is a headset that can offer secure, all-day comfort without ear canal blockage or pressure marks on the wearer’s head.

Finally, the headset is supported by the OpenRock smartphone app, which lets users customize settings like EQ and different sound profiles for work and leisure modes. There’s also a Find My Buds feature for quickly locating misplaced earbuds using an in-app tracking feature.
