One UI 8.5: Smarter YouTube & Spotify on Samsung

One UI 8.5: Samsung expands Now Brief with significantly more precise YouTube and Spotify recommendations

Samsung is working intensively in the background to upgrade its in-house content recommendation function Now Brief. The service, which is currently only available on a few Galaxy devices, offers short, personalized content – but the next generation of the feature could reach a much higher level. A leaked build of One UI 8.5 suggests that YouTube and Spotify suggestions in particular will be much more tailored to users in the future.

YouTube: Now Brief is designed to better understand your interests

While digging through the latest One UI 8.5 code, Android Authority discovered several hints of deeper integration between Samsung and YouTube. In the new system, Now Brief appears to be able to access a user’s YouTube likes in order to derive more individual video suggestions.

The internal strings talk about topic-related recommendations, such as sports content, videos about planned trips or general suggestions that match your own preferences. The prerequisite for this is additional consent from the users, because Samsung has to allow access to personalized data – but the recommendations should be significantly more accurate.

Spotify: Playlists that match your mood, time of day and events

Spotify also plays a larger role in Samsung’s revised Now Brief. The leaked texts indicate that Samsung wants to display playlists in the future that exactly match the current situation. These include, among other things, suggestions for:

  • rainy afternoons
  • Evening relaxation
  • Start of the week
  • Weekend mood
  • wintery days
  • beginning of the year
  • Birthdays
  • Reviews of the music year

Samsung therefore relies heavily on situational and mood-based content. In the future, Now Brief will provide users with musical suggestions without them having to actively search for playlists.

Schedule: Beta of One UI 8.5 could start before Christmas

Although Samsung has not yet released the beta version of One UI 8.5, a recent leak suggests a possible launch on December 8th. This time frame would fit in with Samsung’s usual preparations, as the Galaxy S26 is rumored to be unveiled as early as January.

Early indications of further changes in One UI 8.5 include:

  • an advanced lock screen customization
  • savable camera settings in Pro mode
  • additional Galaxy AI features
  • Refinements in system design

Assessment: A good upgrade for Now Brief

If Samsung actually implements these improvements, Now Brief could go from being a rather inconspicuous additional function to a serious daily companion.

The expansion to YouTube likes and mood-based Spotify playlists clearly shows that Samsung is focusing more on proactive, AI-powered content – and this fits right in with the current development of the industry.

Should Now Brief appear on older Galaxy devices soon, the function could become significantly more relevant and establish itself as a real unique selling point within One UI.
