National League (NHL) players are far from having their skates on the ice rink for the Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo Games, because less than three months before the start of the Olympic tournament, serious concerns regarding the development of an arena remain.

As mentioned by hockey informant Renaud Lavoie on Wednesday on TVA Sports, the project is significantly behind schedule and that does not please the NHL managers, Gary Bettman in the lead, as well as the players’ union. Remember that the competition is scheduled to take place from February 11 to 22.
“What we are told in the media is that the level of concern is high. […] I’m not going to use the word scared, because that might be a little too strong, but we are extremely worried about the situation. The amphitheater in Milan is not ready at all. We think it could be in January. This is what the IOC is telling the NHL and the Players Association [AJLNH]», indicated Lavoie.

“However, what bothers them even more is that there is no plan B. It is not the league and the NHLPA that do not want a plan B, but rather the IOC. That worries a lot of people. Gary Bettman, a year ago, said that the amphitheater file is worrying, that we are not even close to having one which will be under final construction for February 2026, he continued. Ultimately, the commissioner seems to be right. There is still time, but we will see what happens in the coming weeks.”
