In a recent interview, the filmmaker discussed the inspirations and intentions behind his new movie, which draws on elements from the iconic clip “Uncle du Bled” by 113. When asked about the connection,he explained,”This is the story of all those who have gone and who,every summer,return to the country. The Corsicans, the spanish, the Portuguese, the Italians, the Maghrebians, the Caribes … it is not the same type of transport, but it is the same trip. We get home so as not to lose the family bond. It is important.”
The director, who is of Guadeloupe origin, also addressed the decision to focus on a Moroccan family in the film. “Quite,” he stated.”This trip is universal. I grew up in Aulnay-sous-Bois in an surroundings where one was not wondering who was Muslim, Catholic or jewish. We lived together, with respect.
