The Ohio State Buckeyes amounted to number 1 in the survey of the 25 best university football teams of Associated Press this Tuesday, Lsu Tigers and Miami Hurricanes positioned themselves among the top five, and Florida State Seminoles traced positions in the classification at the expense of Alabama Crimson Tide, which fell to their lowest position in 17 seasons.
The Buckeyes, National Defensor Champions, received 55 of the 66 votes of the first place, uploading two positions after their victory over Texas Lonchorns, the number 1 of the preseason. Ohio State heads a regular season survey since November 2015.
The Longhorns fell to number 7, since the voters of the media reorganized the classification after a weekend of labor day with large ups and downs. It was the second time, and the first since 1972, that two Top 5 teams lost in Week 1 and the first time that four Top 10 teams lost.
Only three Top 25 teams are in the same place as in the preseason survey. Penn State Nittany Lions obtained seven votes for the first place and remained in second place. LSU, who received three votes, was followed by Georgia Bulldogs and Miami to complete the top five positions.
Oregon Ducks obtained the other vote for the first place, followed by Texas, the Clemson Tigers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish and South Carolina Gamecocks.
Lsu amounted to six positions after winning in Clemsson, and Miami amounted to five positions for his victory over Notre Dame.
The teams that moved the most in the survey were Florida State and Alabama after the victory of the seminols by 31-17 in their direct confrontation.
The seminols, who were 15 posts from the top 25 in the preseason, now occupy the 14th position. Crimson Tide descended from the number 8 to number 21, their lowest classification since Bama occupied the number 24 in the 2008 preseason survey. That was the second of the 17 Nick Saban teams in Tuscaloosa.
It has been a great change for Florida State. The seminols occupied the 10th position in the 2024 preseason, lost their first two games, ended with a 2-10 record and had not reappeared in the classification so far.
Utah UTES, in the 25th position, join Florida State as the only newcomers to this week’s survey. The UTES appear in the classification for the first time since last October, when they headed a streak of seven losses.
Utah received the second largest number of points, behind Byu Cougars, among the teams outside the Top 25 preseason, but the UTES received more credit for beating UCLA Bruins as visitors than the Cougars for crushing their rival of the FCS, Portland State.
Boise State Broncos, who held the 25th position, did not receive votes after their defeat by 34-7 against South Florida Bulls. The Broncos had appeared in 14 consecutive surveys.
The other team that was out of the survey was No. 17 Kansas State Wildcats, which, after its defeat at the beginning of the season against Iowa State Cyclones, won a last -minute house victory over the FCS team, North Dakota State Bison.
Ohio State is the first team to reach the first place in the first survey of the regular season from Alabama in 2012. He was the biggest jump to the first place in the first survey of the regular season since USC ascended third place in 2008.
The Texas fall was the most pronounced for a first place in preseason since Auburn Tigers descended to eighth place in the first 1984 regular season survey.
LSU has its best classification after week 1 since it was third in 2012, and Miami has its best classification after week 1 since it was fifth in 2004.
South Carolina is among the 10 best in the regular season for the first time since it was eighth in December 2013.
