Offline: Watching the Watchers – Part 4

by Archynetys Health Desk

The People’s Health Movement (PHM) views WHO as “compromised”, displaying “declining leadership” and with a “shrinking space for civil society participation in WHO processes”. Global Health Watch 7 (GHW7), the PHM’s flagship independent monitoring report, calls for “a strong, flexible, inclusive, and democratic WHO” and concludes that the need for such a renaissance at the agency “is greater now than ever before”. The tone of PHM’s analysis is almost wholly negative. The authors of GHW7 are sceptical about WHO’s ability to influence global health policy.
