There are more jobs in Offenbach than there have been for a long time. It’s good when many people can work here. Mayor Dr. Felix Schwenke says: There haven’t been so many jobs in Offenbach for almost 50 years. But: The so-called employee density is not as good as it was 50 years ago. The employment density shows how many jobs there are per resident. 50 years ago it was 45 percent. At the end of December 2024 it was 36.6 percent. The city therefore needs even more jobs.
2025 was a good year: new jobs were created in Offenbach in the second half of 2025. The Samson company has opened its first factory. The Lorenz Snack-World company and its administration will move to Offenbach. Many people will be able to work at both companies. New jobs will also be created in the city in 2026. Samson will hire more people. The Biotech company has been building a factory in Offenbach since July 2025. The automobile manufacturer BYD is moving its German headquarters to Offenbach. And the computer technology company Pan Dacom is preparing to build the new headquarters. So things will probably continue to be positive.
These companies primarily create jobs for well-trained people. That has been missing here for a long time, says the mayor. This creates a better picture of the city of Offenbach. Then perhaps even more companies will come to Offenbach.
How is it that the mayor sees the development so positively? And the city treasurer Martin Wilhelm speaks of difficult years? The city treasurer is a politician in the city. He is responsible for the finances, i.e. the money, of a city. There are more jobs and more income from trade tax. The trade tax is paid by companies in Offenbach. But the city of Offenbach has a lot of expenses. That’s why she’s not doing so well. And she receives money from the state of Hesse. In 2025, Offenbach received 250 million euros from the state of Hesse. But that wasn’t enough to cover the additional costs of new tasks in the city.
There is still a lot to do: Germany’s economy is in crisis. A weak economy means that people can’t make as much money or buy as much. In Offenbach too, many people don’t have a job and need support. For example from the employment agency or the job center. That’s why Offenbach must continue to promote economic development, says Felix Schwenke.
