A new film based on the life of Natalie Suleman, famously known as the Octomom after giving birth to octuplets in 2009, premieres this Saturday. The film delves into Suleman’s journey, beginning with her in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment that resulted in the birth of eight children.
The film will explore the intense media attention, the ambition of her doctor, and the challenges she faced while raising her large family.
“I am a mother like any other mother who would fight for her family irrespective of the circumstances, tests and tribulations or obstacles.”
Following the birth of her octuplets, SULEMAN faced meaningful public scrutiny and, at times, felt like “the most hated woman in the United States” while navigating the complexities of raising 14 children.
SULEMAN believes she found balance by prioritizing her mental and financial health, viewing it as a survival mechanism. “Psychologically it is called the way of struggle, flight or freezing what I lived. From the beginning I used many defence mechanisms to survive mentally,” she explained. “It was like a machine and I didn’t have time to sit and process any emotion.”
After enduring years of criticism and accusations, SULEMAN hopes the film will convey a clear message: “The main message is that my children have priority, I would die for my children, I live for them. I have dedicated my whole life to take care of them,I have the goal of keeping them safe and healthy, raising happy and well -adapted children. I just want people to know that I am a mother.”
“The main message is that my children have priority, I would die for my children, I live for them.”
Despite the constant criticism, she wants her children to lead happy lives. “I have raised my children to have a faith and a strong relationship with God,” SULEMAN stated. “I put God above all in my life, if it weren’t for him I would not have a family.I want family to retain the values of the family as unconditional love, acceptance, be humble and kind to everyone.”
On a personal level, she has chosen to remain celibate for 25 years, focusing solely on her family.”I am a bit different from normal, if they had to label me it would be like a bit asexual, but it is by choice,” she explained. “Throughout my life my vocation was to be a mother, not a couple or wife, I know it is different from what people would expect. Maybe it’s boring, but before having children I didn’t want to be in a relationship, my life I dedicate to my children and it’s fine for me because it works for me.”
