Old Colony Elder Services is sounding the alarm on senior hunger as it joins the March for Meals campaign during the month of March, according to a community announcement. The national monthlong initiative aims to draw attention to the growing need for nutrition support for older adults.
OCES, which serves older adults and people with disabilities in greater Plymouth County, said its Nutrition Program is facing significant budget deficits that could affect its ability to continue providing essential meal services, according to the announcement. Rising food costs and increasing food insecurity across the region have added pressure on existing resources.
The organization’s fundraising goal for the March campaign is $20,000. OCES said a $25 donation can fund three meals and a $100 donation can provide 12 meals. Craig and Diana DiGiorgi will match contributions up to $5,000, according to the announcement.
Funds raised will support home-delivered Meals on Wheels, community dining programs that help reduce isolation and nutrition education and counseling. OCES said each contribution helps the organization ensure that older adults in the community do not go hungry.
