With Spectrum-XGS Ethernet, NVIDIA has introduced an innovative technology that unites distributed data centers into uniform, gigantic AI super factories. In view of the rapidly increasing need for artificial intelligence, individual data centers are increasingly reaching the limits of their performance and capacity within a building. In order to continue to grow, data centers have to scale beyond individual locations – a challenge that has so far been restricted by commercially available Ethernet network infrastructures with high latency, jitter and unpredictable performance.
Spectrum-X Ethernet represents a groundbreaking expansion of the NVIDIA Spectrum-X ™ Ethernet platform by overcoming the previous limits through a scalable infrastructure. As a third pillar of AI computing-in addition to scale-up and scale-out-Spectrum-XGS was specially developed to extend the extreme performance and scalability of Spectrum-X Ethernet to the connection of several, distributed data centers. This creates massive AI super factories that are capable of intelligence on the giga scale.
Spectrum-XGS Ethernet is fully integrated into the Spectrum-X platform and has algorithms that dynamically adjust the network to the distance between the data center locations. The Spectrum-X Ethernet network platform offers a 1.6-fold higher bandwid density than conventional network solutions for multi-tenant and hyperscale AI factories-including AI supercomputers. It consists of NVIDIA Spectrum-X Switches and Nvidia ConnectX®-8 Supernics and enables companies that work on the future of AI, a seamless scalability, ultra-low latency and groundbreaking performance.
Today’s announcement is part of a series of innovations in the field of network technologies at NVIDIA, including the presentation of Nvidia Spectrum-X and Nvidia Quantum-X silicon-photonics network. These enable AI factories to combine millions of GPUs across location and to reduce energy consumption and operating costs.
