Ducks 3, Red Wings 6
Alex DeBrincat had a three-point night as the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Anaheim Ducks 6-3 at Little Caesars Arena.
DeBrincat had two goals and an assist, while Dylan Larkin and Moritz Seider had a goal and an assist each for Detroit (10-7-0), which had lost its last three games. Goalie John Gibson made 15 saves in two periods of play. He didn’t play in the third due to an injury, so Cam Talbot came on in relief and made 10 saves.
Cutter Gauthier, Chris Kreider and Mikael Granlund responded for Anaheim (11-5-1), which suffered a second straight defeat after a seven-game winning streak. Goaltender Lukas Dostal blocked 27 pucks.
After a scoreless first period, the two teams scored five in the second, to the advantage of the Red Wings who returned to the locker room ahead 3-2.
Seider opened the scoring for Detroit at 5:57 of the second period with a shot from the blue line. Gauthier tied the game 1-1 with his 12th goal of the year at 7:35. Michael Rasmussen gave the hosts a 2-1 lead again, beating Dostal in the upper section with a precise shot from the left circle at 12:42. Kreider tied the score at 2-2 for the Ducks with his 10th goal at 14:54, but Axel Sandin-Pellikka put the Red Wings back up 3-2 with his second goal 39 seconds later at 15:33.
During a power play, DeBrincat deflected Seider’s shot past Dostal to increase Detroit’s lead to 4-2 at 0:50 of the third period. Granlund, who returned after an eight-game absence with a lower-body injury, cut Anaheim’s lead to 4-3 with his third goal at 4:33, but Larkin scored his tenth goal of the season at 5:06 to make it 5-3 for the Red Wings. DeBrincat completed his double in an empty cage at 17:59 to confirm Detroit’s 6-3 victory.
Ducks forward Ryan Strome appeared in his first game this year after recovering from an upper-body injury suffered during training camp. He got an assist on Granlund’s goal and maintained a +2 differential in 13:49 of play.
Ducks forward Leo Carlsson was shut out, so his point streak ended at 11. He had 20 points (nine goals, 11 assists) during that stretch.
