“I moved into an apartment 2 years ago that looked perfect on paper. Except that no one had warned me: people hanging out downstairs until 2 a.m., a bar 100 meters away that you can hear as if it were in the living room. » Guillaume Bergé does not live in Nîmes, but his bad experience, he hopes that it will be useful to everyone.
Because looking for an apartment is often an obstacle course. Find it even more. All this, with many criteria to take into account. Among which, tranquility, often among the essentials. However, it is difficult to identify during a visit. A map has been developed to easily find the noisiest streets in the city. Which are these in the Gard prefecture?
A card, a promise
Table of Contents
Following this known experience in Clermont-Ferrand, Guillaume Bergé developed an application to find the least noisy roads in all municipalities in France. This tool is called “Quietly” (calmly in English). His promise: “ Check the noise level of an address before signing. Free. Anonymous. In 30 seconds. » News Nîmes tested.
In the city, during the day, few streets appear to be really noisy. This mainly affects areas near the railway line or busy roads. On the other hand, at night, it’s not the same story.

The targeted city center
The gauge is exploding on several axes in the city center. Without too many surprises, are considered “very noisy”: the Street Frescorue de l’Etoile, la Grand’Rue, rue des Greffes or even place des Escafidous.
But that’s not all: the place Montcalm is one of the “red dots” of the city, as well as the square de la Couronne. For the moment, no comments from residents have been added on these paths. These nuisances are displayed due to the presence of bars in the area but the map does not differentiate the different hours or days of the week on which the establishments are open.
At this stage, these are only data-driven assessments 100% algorithmic. For this reason, neighborhoods that would be “lively” in the evening, without there being any establishments open to the public nearby, do not appear on the map.
Algorithmic analyzes
In order to establish these analyses, Guillaume Bergé used artificial intelligence to create an algorithm which aggregates all the public data which can influence the results on the tranquility of the streets. “This retrieves information about pedestrian and road traffic, on the businesses and their opening hours… before automatically linking everything and providing an estimate,” explains Guillaume.
Added to this are comments from Internet users and especially from concerned residents. These opinions are extremely important for the reliability of the tool and take precedence over other data. But then, to avoid any abuse, the latter aremoderate : the young entrepreneur does not want the tool to become a platform for settling scores between neighbors.
