More and more German universities have decided to face a student Muslim association that wants to use their premises for their activities. Universities are particularly opposed to strict gender segregation, which is supposed to be the rule at these Islamic groups.
One of the most recent recent cases, which is highlighted by Bild, concerns the well -known Berlin University Hospital Charité. It banned the Islamic student group Medislam Collective to perform its activities on academic ground. The reason was to be the gender segregation at the lectures operating the group.
The group itself denies that segregation concerning the selection of seating sites would be mandatory and published a petition against the management of the university, which defines itself against the alleged “anti -Muslim racism” and “structural discrimination”.
For similar reasons, the University of Kiel took the accreditation of “Islamic university group”. It must no longer use university premises and school intranet. The group should have committed lectures on the school premises in May, which were intended for separate entrances for men and women. However, the campus, according to the university, is to be used for “diverse and cosmopolitan discourse” leading to “safe, respectful and open academic culture.”
Similarly, the event of the local Muslim group at the University of Siegen was said to be segregated. The school management only said later that they did not know about the situation with separate entrances and that the future similar events will be monitored.
The students were also separated by sex at the Muslim student group at the University of Tübingen, which even held a dormitory owned by the Evangelical Church, Bild writes.
