Swedish studio Neon Giant, which developed the cyberpunk-style action game “The Ascent“, officially announced their new game “No Law” at this year’s Game Awards (The Game Awards). This is a gritty-style first-person shooting game. Players will play as a retired soldier and embark on a journey of revenge in a neon-lit city. The game is expected to be released on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC platforms.
The protagonist of “No Law” is Gray Harker, a retired veteran living in the neon city “Port Desire”. He had left his military career to pursue a quiet life, but he was attacked at home. In order to find out the truth behind the incident, he was forced to regain his fighting skills. According to an interview with foreign media GameSpot before publication, players can choose the explosive style of fighting head-on, or they can adopt cautious stealth tactics to complete tasks.
Neon Giant co-founder Arcade Berg explained that player choices are crucial to the game world, but the focus is not simply “stealth or shooting”, but “the impact of choices on the city.” He gave an example: “Is there collateral damage? Is there an explosion? Even if you choose to sneak and shoot an exploding oil drum, it will still make a loud noise. People in other parts of the city will hear it and start to wonder what happened.”
Another co-founder, Tor Frick, added: “Port Desire is not a vast city, but it is very dense. The world is full of details, and everything is driven by the player’s autonomy. You can’t go wrong with this game, and no matter what you do in the world, it is valid.”
Berg asked fans not to worry about the switch from The Ascent’s overhead perspective to first-person. He explained that many developers within Neon Giant have rich FPS development backgrounds, and the isometric perspective and RPG elements of “The Ascent” are challenges that they have been less exposed to in the past. Berg said confidently: “Now returning to first-person gives us confidence in our abilities. At least, we can guarantee a solid and compact gunplay experience. After all, this is what we have been doing for 25 years.”
At present, “No Law” has not announced a specific release date.
