Basavareddy starts working with Gilles Cervara

Gilles Cervara joins the Nishesh Basavareddy team.

Nishesh Basavareddy has started working with his new coach, Gilles Cervara, the American’s team confirmed this Thursday.
The 20-year-old American has had a great season, in which he has been able to appear in his first ATP Tour semifinal in Auckland and reach No. 99 in the PIF ATP Rankings as the highest position of his career. Basavareddy was able to take a set from 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in the first round of the Australian Open.
For the second year in a row, Basavareddy has qualified for the Next Gen ATP Finals presented by PIF, which will take place from December 17 to 21 in Saudi Arabia.
Cervara is known for having guided Daniil Medvedev for eight years. At that stage, Medvedev reached world No. 1 in the PIF ATP Rankings, won the US Open in 2021, the Nitto ATP Finals in 2020, in addition to six ATP Masters 1000 titles.
In 2019, the Frenchman was chosen as Coach of the Year at the ATP Awards. Cervara and Medvedev stopped working together last August.
Basavareddy, who turned professional last December after two seasons at Stanford University, will be one of eight players participating in the Under-20 tournament in Jeddah later this month. Jakub Mensik, Learner Tien, Alexander Blockx, Dino Prizmic, Martin Landaluce, Nicolai Budkov Kjaer, and Rafael Jodar complete the lineup.
