For the first time in franchise history, the Bakumatsu period is presented as a new setting for players to fight in Nioh 3. This era, representing the last of the samurai, is set in Kyoto in the 19th century, where the land and iconic locations such as the Kiyomizu and Honnoji temples have been transformed by the influence of the Crucible.

In addition to facing new and fearsome yokai, players will also face the Shinsengumi, a military unit in the service of the shogunate. Shinsengumi troops are formidable adversaries equipped with modern weaponry, including firearms and Gatling guns, and delivering a combination of ranged and multi-directional attacks, a first for the Nioh series.

“A future era is distorted beyond recognition after Kunimatsu, plunged into darkness, declares himself eternal shogun.

As Edo and nearly all of Japan are engulfed by the Crucible, Kyoto, protected by the sacred Spirit Trees, stands as the last bastion, where loyalists continue their desperate resistance.

About Nioh 3

In the new installment of the dark samurai action RPG series, “Nioh”, you will have to combine samurai and ninja combat styles to face fearsome yokai in an exciting open field.

Nioh 3 tells the story of a young warrior ready to become the next Shogun in Japan’s turbulent Sengoku period. The game takes place in an open field, which players can freely explore, while enjoying the unique tension that accompanies all Nioh titles. Face formidable encounters with yokai monsters, explore villages where suspicious beings lurk, face the daunting challenges of The Crucible, and enjoy exciting new hostile environments as you fight to survive in the cursed kingdom!

A new feature of Nioh 3 in the Nioh series is the possibility of enjoying two different fighting styles: Samurai and Ninja. The Samurai style offers a similar gameplay experience to previous Nioh titles. New actions have been added such as “Art Proficiency”, which enhances the power of martial arts, and “Deflect”, which allows you to block enemy attacks at the last moment, helping to create a series of intense and deadly head-to-head confrontations.

On the other hand, the Ninja style stands out for its fast movements, such as dodging and aerial actions, which gives them the advantage of being able to attack from outside the enemy’s range using various Ninjitsu techniques depending on the situation on the battlefield. Players can use techniques such as “Fog”, which leaves a clone behind an attack, and “Evade”, which allows you to narrowly avoid enemy attacks. Both techniques help players outmaneuver enemies while delivering devastating quick attacks from behind.

Depending on enemy tendencies and scenarios, players can seamlessly switch between Samurai and Ninja techniques instantly at any time or choose to fight using only one style continuously depending on the challenges and confrontations ahead.

  • An open field that challenges you at all times – The game offers an open field that conveys the characteristic sense of tension of the “Nioh” series while allowing you to explore at your leisure. In this dark samurai world you will face formidable yokai, explore sinister villages where darkness lurks, and fight to confront the fearsome presence of “Purgatory.”
  • Samurai and Ninja combat styles – Switch fluidly between the two styles during combat, taking on your enemies with the samurai style, and showing off your agility and special techniques with the ninja style.
