Nintendo’s Switch Sales and Financials Forecasts for 2025

Nintendo Slashes Switch Sales Forecast for 2025

Nintendo has revised its sales projections for its iconic gaming console, the Switch, in the wake of heightened expectations for an anticipated successor. Today, November 5, the gaming giant slashed its Switch sales forecast for the financial year ending March 2025 from 13.5 million units to a more modest 12.5 million units. The decision comes amidst growing anticipation for the Switch 2, which is rumored to be unveiled before April.

Nintendo Also Reduces Financial Projections

In addition to the gaming console, Nintendo has also scaled back its financial projections for this fiscal year. The company has decreased its sales estimates from 1.35 trillion yen to 1.28 trillion yen, while simultaneously reducing its forecasted operating profit from 400 billion yen to 360 billion yen.

Switch Sales Performance in B/H2 2024

Despite a solid performance during the first half of the fiscal year (B/H1 2024), the second half of the fiscal year proved to be challenging in terms of sales. Nintendo reported a significant drop in both revenue and profit for the period from July to September 2024. Revenue dropped by 17% year-on-year, while the net profit nosedived a staggering 69%.

Nintendo’s Financial Situation

Nintendo acknowledges that last year was characterized by significant milestone releases, such as the Super Mario Bros. movie and The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. However, this year saw a notable decrease in the company’s offerings, resulting in the reduced sales and profits for this year’s fiscal year.

Nintendo SWITCH Sales Decrease

In the first six months of this fiscal year, Nintendo sold substantially fewer Switch units compared to the same period last year. Specifically, Nintendo sold 4.72 million units in the six months ending September 30, marking a 31% decrease from the 6.84 million units sold during the same period last year. Additionally, Software unit sales showed a similar decline, with sales down nearly 28% year-on-year to 70.28 million units.

Recent Game Releases

Nintendo released several new games throughout the first half of this fiscal year, including Paper Mario Thousand-Year Door (1.94 million units), Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD (1.57 million units), and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom (2.58 million units). Additionally, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continues to perform exceptionally well, with another 2.31 million units sold, pushing its total sales count to a substantial 64.27 million units.

Nintendo’s Future Strategy

Nintendo’s intentions for the future are focused on maintaining the popularity of the Switch. The company aims not only to increase the number of Switch systems in every household but also to continually release new offerings to keep the console relevant for consumers. The official Switch successor is expected to be announced before the end of the current fiscal year.

Upcoming Nintendo Games

A wave of new games is expected to keep the Switch relevant and engaging for its users. Highlighting upcoming titles, including Mario & Luigi: Brotherhood and Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, Nintendo continues to ensure that consumers have ample reasons to stay engaged with the Switch.
