Nigel Wright, a long -standing Canadian businessman and former senior advisor to Prime Minister Stephen Harper, has died.
Onex, the investment capital company where Mr. Wright worked for almost 30 years, announced his death in a statement released on Tuesday. The cause of death has not been specified. Mr. Wright was 62 years old.

Wright was a chief of staff to Stephen Harper from 2011 to 2013. In a publication on social networks on Tuesday afternoon, Harper said that he and his wife Laureen were in shock and deeply upset by the sudden death of Mr. Wright.
Unique and deeply accomplished person, Nigel combined intellectual insight to an incredible work capacity.
He added that Mr. Wright was also a man of faith who cared about his fellow citizens and who generously supported various philanthropic causes throughout his life

Wright was active on the political scene since his university studies and was a longtime friend and supporter of Mr. Harper.
He started working at Onex in 1997, according to this company.

The Ethics Commissioner concluded that Mr. Wright had violated the federal rules on conflicts of interest in 2017. The commissioner had no power to impose sanctions in this case.
In 2014, Mr. Wright returned to Onex and joined the London office of this company.
