Nick Cave Rejects Morrissey’s ‘Anti-Woke’ Request

Morrissey’s “Anti-Woke Screed” rejected by nick Cave

In a recent revelation, nick cave disclosed that Morrissey approached him with a proposition to lend his voice to a new track. However, this wasn’t a typical request for singing or backing vocals. Rather, MORRISSEY wanted CAVE to introduce the song with what CAVE described as “an unnecessarily provocative” spoken-word piece.

CAVE addressed the situation in response to a fan’s inquiry on his “Red Hand Files” website, were he often discusses his relationships and experiences. He explained that MORRISSEY had contacted him via email the previous year regarding the collaboration. CAVE found the song itself to be “quite lovely” but noted that it “began with a lengthy and entirely irrelevant Greek bouzouki intro.” A bouzouki, he clarified, is a long-necked string instrument.

According to CAVE, MORRISSEY’s vision involved him delivering a “slightly silly anti-woke screed [MORRISSEY] had written” over the instrumental introduction. While CAVE refrained from divulging specific details of the written piece and conceded, “I suppose I agreed with the sentiment on some level,” he ultimately “politely declined” the offer, stating “it just wasn’t my thing.”

CAVE elaborated on his decision, stating, “I try to keep politics, cultural or otherwise, out of the music I am involved with. I find that it has a diminishing effect and is antithetical to whatever it is indeed I am trying to achieve.”

Although the exact content of MORRISSEY’s writing remains undisclosed, it aligns with his controversial public persona. In recent years, MORRISSEY has faced criticism for his far-right views, especially concerning immigration. Since his 2020 album, I Am Not a Dog on a Chain, MORRISSEY has hinted at several upcoming projects, none of which have materialized. In a past interview, MORRISSEY alleged that one album was being suppressed due to “idiot culture.”

Despite the absence of new releases, MORRISSEY has maintained an active touring schedule. He recently concluded a series of North American performances earlier this year and has commenced a European tour set to continue through August. Additional North American dates are planned for September and October.
