Most German NFL players fell victim to the Roster Cut. But that doesn’t mean that the dream is over for you. On the contrary: for them it is even easier than for Americans.

The NFL Preseason is over – the franchises teams have shrunk from sometimes over 90 players to 53.
Apart from the offensive Lineman Brandon Coleman at the Washington Commanders and Wide Receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown at the Detroit Lions, no player with German roots has managed to jump into one of the squad.
However, the NFL trip of Lenny Krieg, Leander Wiegand and Co. is far from over. ran explains how things will go on now.
NFL roster cuts: After the cut is in front of the Waiver
Almost all crushing players, i.e. Lenny Krieg, Leander Wiegand, Lorentz Metz, Julius Welschof, Kilian Zierer and Maximilian Mang, are currently going through the so -called Waiver Wire.
The latter says that cut -out players are available for exactly 24 hours under certain conditions and that teams can deposit their interest.
In the event that no team has shown the will to sign the player, they will officially become free agents and can freely negotiate with the team of their choice.
However, if a team – which can also be the franchise that the actor has cut before – show interest, the player will be assigned to the team on the conditions of the old contract.
If several teams want a player, the so -called Waiver Priority decides who is awarded the contract. This is based on the worst teams in the pre -season until week four (the Tennessee Titans are in the first place), then according to the current standings.
NFL International Player Exemption: Special opportunity for the Germans
International players even have an advantage over the American players. As part of the expansion of the International Pathway Program, the NFL has now granted each of the 32 teams with an extra space in Practice Squad for international players.
Usually the limit for the Practice Squad is 16 players, but if an international player is signed, then he counts as a 17th extra player.
It is very likely that each of the players mentioned above get one of the teams one of these places.
NFL Roster Cuts: Special cases EQ St. Brown and Jakob Johnson
Jakob Johnson represents a special case. The fullback was also cowled at the Houston Texans, but it does not go through the Waiver Wire.
The reason for this: Johnson came to the league via the International Pathway Program, but the New England Patriots took away this protected status by promoting him to the 53-man squad in 2019. In addition, Johnson is considered a “veteran” and is no longer intended for the Waiver Wire anyway.
The situation at Equanimeous St. Brown is different again. The wide receiver was cut at the San Francisco 49ers, but he also has nothing to do with the Waiver Wire. Also because his season has already ended due to an injury.
