Mitte/Tempelhof-Schöneberg/Neukölln/Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg
Nr. 2624
The Berlin police will also be deployed with increased forces on New Year’s Eve this year to ensure the safety of Berliners and all visitors. There will once again be areas in which carrying and using pyrotechnics as well as weapons and knives will be prohibited.
The prohibited areas for pyrotechnics as well as weapons and knives are located at Alexanderplatz in Mitte, in the Steinmetzkiez area in Schöneberg, on part of Sonnenallee and adjacent side streets in Neukölln and on Admiralbrücke and adjacent streets in Kreuzberg. In addition, there will be an additional weapon and knife ban zone on this night around the central New Year’s Eve event area at the Brandenburg Gate, the Straße des 17. Juni and the adjacent assembly at the Großer Stern. The prohibited zone includes the Großer Tiergarten, parts of the Hansaviertel and the parliamentary and government district.
The ban on weapons and knives affects all weapons within the meaning of the Weapons Act as well as all knives, kitchen knives and utility knives. Exceptions to this ban, for example for commercial reasons, can be found in the general decree of December 23, 2025, which was published today in the Berlin Official Gazette.
The ban on weapons and knives in the Tiergarten district as well as the areas where pyrotechnics are prohibited apply from Wednesday, December 31, 2025, 6 p.m. to Thursday, January 1, 2026, 6 a.m.
The ban on pyrotechnics applies to pyrotechnic items in categories F2, F3 and F4 and, of course, any pyrotechnics without the necessary approval and labeling (illegal pyrotechnics). Only carrying and using pyrotechnic objects of category F1 is permitted. These include, for example, sparklers, table fireworks and firecrackers that are permitted all year round.
During the period mentioned, the Berlin police will be present with emergency services in the prohibited areas and will monitor and enforce the ban on carrying and use.
In the event area at the Brandenburg Gate, where the organizer prohibits the carrying or use of fireworks of any kind, relevant checks are carried out by security staff within the framework of house rules.
Regardless of this, the regulations on weapon and knife ban zones have continued to exist since February 14th and July 14th, 2025 (https://www.berlin.de/polizei/polizeimeldeen/2025/pressemitigung.1532004.php
