Podium Finish for Ruud Despite Stiff Competition
Norwegian freestyle skiing sensation Birk Ruud secured a bronze medal in the Big Air World Cup, adding to his already impressive collection of accolades. This latest achievement brings his total World cup medal count to five, comprising two golds, one silver, and two bronzes. Notably, the 2023 bronze was his sole Big Air medal until this recent victory.
The Winning Runs: A Breakdown
The competition was fierce, with athletes pushing the boundaries of aerial acrobatics. Ruud’s final performance was a testament to his skill and adaptability. Here’s a look at how the competition unfolded for him:
- First Run: Ruud initiated the final with a Double Bio 1800 Mute Grab. However, a less-than-ideal landing resulted in a score of 87 points, initially placing him in 7th position.
- Second Run: He then executed a Switch 1980 with a Mute Grab, earning him an impressive 93.50 points and propelling him into medal contention.
- Third Run: In his final attempt, Ruud performed another double Bio 1800 with a Mute Grab, achieving a cleaner landing and improving his score to 89.50 points.
During the qualifying rounds, Ruud dominated with a score of 91.00 on his first attempt. Despite an unsuccessful second attempt, he secured a total of 176.50 points, leading all 24 participants.
Ruud’s Reaction: “Superstoka” and Improvisation
Following his bronze-winning performance, Ruud expressed his excitement, highlighting the importance of his equipment and his ability to improvise mid-air. As Ruud told NTB:
Holy Shit! I’m so sick “stoka” (gear) on landing the two tricks today. Trick number two finaly came back to where it has been before, and I put it on “improv” when I was in the air.
Birk Ruud, to NTB
He further added:
It was a fantastic feeling. I am “Superstoka”,and it was just the same as in the World Cup 2023 with gold and bronze.

The 24-year-old from Bærum continues to be a dominant force in freestyle skiing. As the reigning Olympic champion in Big Air from the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, Ruud consistently demonstrates his exceptional talent and dedication to the sport. His recent gold medal in Slopestyle, ahead of American competitors mac Forehand and Alex Hall, further solidifies his position as a top contender in the world of freestyle skiing.
