New spick method: “Super grades with a chatt-pencil”

It is an ancient game: vocabulary, technical terms or rivers that you cannot remember, write on the forearm, or on a small note, as a backup in the exam, in case you no longer know what to do.

The spick methods can be perfect with AI. A small company from Wuppertal has developed a scan pencil that has a AI, similar to chatt on board. At first glance, this looks like a classic marker. Instead of the wide color donor, a camera sits at the top with which lines of text can be quickly scanned. The AI inside analyzes the task and shows the solution on a small display on the wide side of the abbey.

Ki-pen supposedly ensures great abi

In principle, scan pencils are nothing new, they have been around for many years. However, the combination with AI has only been possible in the form since Chatgpt. And the spick pencils now also employ the teachers, as the BR has learned from a private teacher environment. A company is particularly pushing your device at the moment. The company is called “Scannix”.

Students are shown on Tikkok who pull their pen out of their pockets in the exam and solve the tasks with its help. The short videos are provided with texts such as: “Thanks to the Chatgpt Abbey for my 1.3 Abitur” or “Thank you Chatgpt-Stift for 15 points in the test”. On the company’s homepage, parents are pleased that their children are said to be better at school thanks to the device. The company offers the pen for almost 65 euros.

Entrepreneur was recently still a student

Nick Ratuschny, a young entrepreneur, is behind Scannix who brought the pen to the German market just a few weeks ago. The videos on Tikkok are a bit exhilarating, a marketing strategy, he admits. Of course, he didn’t want to call for cheating. Until recently, Ratuschny was still a student that his goal was to just be a little more fun with the scan-pencil. What the pen can do, you can also create with every smartphone as it admits. But it is easier and faster. Prompts – i.e. the command – write for artificial intelligence, falls away. The AI knows what to do, namely deliver solutions for tasks.

Classic cheat sheets made more sense

How far such pens have already spread to Bavarian schools is not entirely clear. The President of the Bavarian Teachers’ Association (BLLV), Simone Fleischmann, cannot provide any information. She finds the company’s quasi call for shelter, i.e. for cheating in the test. Especially since the device prevents a positive effect that the writing of classic cheat sheets still had: in the past you still had to deal with the fabric and summarize the matter on the essential points. That all does the AI.

Cat-and-mouse game with AI in schools

Fleischmann, however, does not want to call up to prohibit the AI pen in the schools immediately. In her opinion, such a ban falls too short – especially since it would have to implement the teachers, i.e. have to check. According to Fleischmann, the teachers feel rather trapped in a kind of cat-and-mouse game, in which artificial intelligence constantly offers the students new opportunities. The teachers could only try to keep an overview and adapt the examination conditions. For example, to grading a housework has become quite difficult because this task usually does the language AI at home at the push of a button in a matter of seconds.

For the BLLV President, the solution can only be to overcome the old concept of performance. “Bulimic learning has to be buried,” said Fleischmann. In other words, pure memorized timpani simply does nothing in times of chatt. If this conviction prevails in the curricula, AI pencils quickly become superfluous. The young entrepreneur Nick Ratuschny has to think about a new business idea until then.
