SANTA FE, New Mexico – New Mexico will expand its summer internship program to offer up to 3,000 paid internships to high school students in 2025, with a focus on high-demand sectors such as healthcare and technology.

The Department of Public Education will expand its Summer Enrichment Internship Program through a state coalition led by Education at Work. Internships will last eight weeks and will include guided activities to support career exploration and preparation for study or employment.

“Students will be able to explore careers and acquire practical skills for their future,” said Secretary of Public Education, Mariana D. Padilla. Jane Swift, CEO of Education at Work, said these opportunities are key in an economy transformed by artificial intelligence and automation.

Organizations such as American Student Assistance and the Work-Based Learning Alliance will provide tools, program management, and technology platforms to guide learning.
