The Ministry of Health’s effort to promote healthy eating in childhood and combat childhood obesity begins with the revision of the list of foods that should be available from school canteens.

The current food list dates from 2013 and was drawn up with the logic of including foods and food groups that are most often recommended in the context of a healthy diet, keeping in line with the recommendations of the Mediterranean diet. It is indicative that the confectionery category includes pasteli and wholemeal biscuits, while “school” sandwiches can include cheese, vegetables, olive paste or olives and only olive oil as a fatty substance. Today, the experts of the new National Nutrition Committee have been asked to review the contents of the list, taking into account the most recent scientific recommendations for children’s nutrition.

“This is one of the interventions that we will do in the context of promoting healthy eating at young ages”, the Professor of Hygiene and Epidemiology, Laboratory of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Medical Statistics of the Faculty of Medicine of the Greek Academy of Sciences, and a member of the Committee, tells “K” , Vasiliki Benetou and continues, “the school environment must be a place that will offer healthy options.

Situation In Gaza Has Worsened Since Genocide Denunciation,…

The UN rapporteur for the Palestinian Territories, Francesca Albanese, denounced this Thursday that the situation in the Gaza Strip “has worsened” even after the International Court of Justice (ICJ) issued a ruling ordering Israel to avoid genocide in the Palestinian enclave.

“My visit has shown that the situation in Gaza has worsened since my last assessment, with serious and multi-level long-term implications. “Most of the Palestinians I met have suffered catastrophic injuries,” the UN rapporteur said at a news conference in Cairo.

Albanese, who visited Jordan and Egypt this week, denounced the deterioration of the situation in Gaza even after the first ICJ ruling and the second set of preliminary measures issued by the court on March 28 for “Israel to end to their possible genocidal behavior.

As an example, he gave the obstacles to the entry of humanitarian aid to Gaza, where “malnutrition has become chronic”while the land crossings remain unopened for the necessary amounts of assistance to enter and cover the most basic needs of the Palestinians.

The mentioned areas have in common that they were dominated by coal mining in the past. Other municipalities in the Moravian-Silesian, Ústí and Karlovy Vary regions are in a similar situation. For them, the move away from coal poses risks of job losses and further outflow of talented people. This is precisely why money from the European Just Transition Fund, which is part of the so-called Green Deal for Europe, should flow into them.

“We need to align the starting line,” declared the Minister of the Environment Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL). According to him, the aim is to support projects that will maintain or even better increase the number of jobs in the mentioned regions, or take care of the development of business, culture or research.
