Group NewJeans released its first 900 million streamed song on Spotify, a global audio and music streaming platform.
According to Spotify on the 16th, New Genes’ single album ‘OMG’ and the title song of the same name were played a cumulative 901,364,93 times as of the 14th. After exceeding 800 million cumulative views in March last year, this song proved its steady global power by adding 100 million views in about 10 months.
‘OMG’ is a hip-hop R&B song that mixes UK garage rhythm and trap rhythm. The point choreography, which involves putting one’s hand on one’s head and nodding one’s head to the lyrics of “Oh my oh my God,” combines with the lively and exciting melody to create a strong addiction, making it much loved.
‘OMG’ rose to 74th place on the US Billboard ‘Hot 100’ after its release in January 2023, and stayed on the chart for 6 weeks, setting an unusual record for a song by a K-pop rookie at the time. It showed outstanding performance across global charts, ranking 10th on Billboard’s ‘Global 200‘ and 7th on Billboard Japan’s ‘Hot 100’. In particular, along with ‘Ditto’, which was included in the same album, it dominated the top charts at home and abroad for a long period of time, establishing itself as a representative hit song of that year.
New Jeans has released a total of 15 Spotify streaming songs including ‘OMG’. ‘Super Shy’ and ‘Ditto’ over 800 million views, ‘Hype Boy’ over 700 million times, ‘Attention‘ over 500 million times, ‘New Jeans’ and ‘ETA’ over 400 million times, ‘Cookie’ over 300 million times, ‘Hurt’, ‘Cool With You’, ‘How Sweet’, and ‘Supernatural’ over 200 million times, and ‘ASAP’, ‘Get Up’, and ‘Bubble Gum’ respectively. It was played over 100 million times. The cumulative cumulative number of views on Spotify for all songs released so far by New Jeans exceeds 7.2 billion.
