Nevada Gas Prices: California Refinery Issues

by Archynetys News Desk

Nevada drivers are preparing for an increase in gas prices as refinery maintenance in California is expected to reduce production, leading to higher costs at the pump.

Currently, the average price for a gallon of gas in Nevada is $3.92, marking a two-cent increase from last week.

John Treanor, spokesperson for AAA Mountain West Group, said, “Up until today, Washington was the state with the most expensive gas for several days, surpassing California. Even though West Coast drivers are feeling pain at the pump, prices remain relatively low in the Plains and the South.”

In Las Vegas, drivers are paying an average of $3.96 per gallon, while in Reno, the price has reached $4.13 per gallon. Meanwhile, the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline has risen by a penny to $3.20.

The Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported an increase in gasoline demand from 8.50 million barrels per day last week to 8.81 million. However, the total domestic gasoline supply decreased from 220 million barrels to 217.6 million, with production averaging 9.4 million barrels per day last week.

In the oil market, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil prices fell by 47 cents, settling at $64.05 a barrel. U.S. crude oil inventories decreased by 9.3 million barrels, standing at 415.4 million barrels, which is about 5% below the five-year average for this time of year.

For electric vehicle owners, the national average cost per kilowatt hour at public charging stations remained steady at 36 cents, with Nevada’s rate slightly higher at 41 cents.

Nevada ranks fifth among the nation’s most expensive gasoline markets, following California, Washington, Hawaii, and Oregon. Conversely, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Louisiana are among the states with the least expensive gas prices.
