More than $8.6 million in ARPA funds have been allocated to two main food banks, Food Bank of Northern Nevada and Three Square Food Bank.

The State says it anticipates that the initial combined $38 million will last through November and says they will continue to seek sustainable funding solutions as the shutdown continues.

An additional $30 million in state contingency funds is slated to be allocated to the Food Insecurity Nevada Plan on Thursday.

80% of funds will go towards the Three Square Food Bank, while 20% will go towards the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. The percentage of funds each bank would receive is based on SNAP recipient data.

The state is also requesting $200,000 to activate the National Guard to support food distribution infrastructure, including receiving, boxing and transporting food. The National Guard will also be providing a tractor trailer and drivers to assist in Clark County.

The distribution of food will ramp up over the weekend and into next week.
