Nevada Basketball: Boise State OT Loss – 2024 Recap

by Archynetys News Desk

The Nevada men’s hoops team was on the edge of a miracle comeback for the second time in the past seven days, but fell to Boise State 91-87 in overtime at ExtraMile Arena on Tuesday.

The Wolf Pack trailed by 20 in the first half, but cut the deficit to 39-28 at halftime behind a quick 3-pointer from Corey Camper Jr. right before the break. He contributed 14 of Nevada’s 28 first-half points.

Tayshawn Comer hit a jumper to start the second half and Camper’s putback moments later pulled the Wolf Pack within six points. The Broncos led by double digits again but Camper hit a trio of 3-pointers to keep the Pack afloat and it would soon begin a 15-2 Nevada run capped by Vaughn Weems’ first points of the night, an uncontested second-chance 3-pointer to pull the Wolf Pack within two, 59-57.

Comer drilled a step back three to tie the game at 60 with under 8 minutes to play, then Nevada took its first lead of the night, 63-62, moments later following another 3-pointer from Comer. The Broncos led by 4 with just under two minutes to play following a 3-pointer from Javan Buchanan. Elijah Price made one of two free throws on the next possession, as Nevada trailed by three with 40 seconds to play. Campers’ game tying 3-pointer was just off the mark, but the Wolf Pack would later pull within two following Weems’ 3-pointer with 12 seconds to play, now trailing 79-77. Andrew Meadow was quickly fouled and missed both free throws at the charity stripe. Price rebounded the ball after the second free throw attempt and quickly found Comer who hit a 15-foot runner as time expired to send the game to overtime tied at 79.

The Broncos outscored the Wolf Pack 12-8 in the extra five minutes despite the game being tied at 85 with 45 seconds to play in the first overtime. Dylan Andrews‘ stepback 3-pointer helped lift the Broncos to an 88-85 lead en route to a 91-87 win as Nevada falls shy of a miracle comeback on the road.

Corey Camper Jr. led all scorers with a career-high 35 points on 14-of-22 shooting, including 5-of-10 from three. Comer followed scoring 22 of his 24 points in the second half. Price chipped in 17 points and 9 rebounds. Andrews led Boise State with 25 points.

Nevada will host Fresno State on Saturday. The Bulldogs trailed by four points with six seconds to play against UNLV on Tuesday but Jake Heidbreder hit a game-winning shot at the buzzer to defeat the Runnin’ Rebels, 98-96. Tip off between the Wolf Pack and Bulldogs is at 7 p.m. with pregame coverage on Nevada Sports Net starting at 6:30 p.m.
