What if we told you that for several years, Netflix has opted for the same strategy on January 1st and that it turns out to be very effective?
It’s only the beginning of December but perhaps you already know what you’re going to do for New Year’s Eve and January 1st. Maybe you’ll plan to spend it watching Netflix, to chill and recover. And that’s good, the platform has thought of you, with two highlights expected for the first day of 2026.
For investigation enthusiasts
It’s an old refrain now. For 3 years now, Netflix has opted for the same strategy and subscribers for the same ritual: discovering the latest Harlan Coben series on January 1st.
In 2024, they had binged Double Trap, a British thriller in 8 episodes. Such a resounding success that it managed to join the list of the most viewed series on the platform that year. In 2025, it was I miss you that kept the spectators in suspense.
On January 1, 2026, spectators will be able to binge Don’t Run Away Anymore, adaptation of a 2019 novel by Harlan Coben, of which here is the synopsis:
Simon’s perfect life is shattered when his eldest daughter, Paige, runs away with an unlikely boy. When he finds her, 6 months later, drugged in a city park, she flees. This distraught father’s research forces him to plunge into a dangerous environment…
James Nesbitt (Murphy’s Law), Minnie Driver and Alfred Enoch (Harry Potter) star in this 8-episode mini-series which will certainly turn our brains, Harlan Coben obliges.
And for science fiction fans
This time, Netflix is not stopping at Harlan Coben since this end of the year also marks the farewell of Stranger Things, one of its most popular series. And on this occasion, the platform divided season 5 into three parts. The last one will be put online with us on January 1st at 2 a.m. Early risers or night owls will therefore be able to binge episode 8 before everyone else (and then continue on to Harlan Coben if they want).
If we don’t yet know what exactly the final episode of Stranger Things will be about, we know that it will last 2h05 and that it will take us through all the emotions… In short, we can’t wait for 2026.
