An Axios correspondent said, quoting an informed source: “Netanyahu’s trip to the conference in Sharm El-Sheikh was born during President Trump’s trip with Netanyahu in the presidential limousine from Ben Gurion Airport to the Knesset.”
He added: “When I spoke with President Trump while he was on the plane on his way to Israel, he did not know that Netanyahu had not been invited to the conference, and he said that the Egyptians were the ones responsible for the invitations.”
He continued: “During the limousine trip to the Knesset, Trump told Netanyahu that it was better for him to attend,” and the source indicated that Netanyahu agreed.
A senior American official said that President Trump then began mediating between Sisi and Netanyahu, who had not spoken since the beginning of the war in Gaza.
He added: “Trump called the Egyptian president and asked him to invite Netanyahu to the summit. A short time later, Sisi called Netanyahu and invited him.”
The Egyptian presidency announced, on Monday, that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will participate in the Sharm El-Sheikh summit in order to consolidate the agreement to stop the war in Gaza and confirm commitment to it.
The official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic explained: “Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from US President Donald Trump while he was in Israel in the company of the Israeli Prime Minister, who also spoke with the President, and it was agreed that he would attend the peace summit in which Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will participate.”
In this context, Israeli Channel 12 reported that the Israeli Prime Minister is likely to travel to Sharm El-Sheikh on Trump’s plane and return on an Israeli plane.
