Danuše Nerudová, a Czech Member of the European Parliament (MEP), is facing increased scrutiny regarding her commitment to the European Green Deal. While campaigning for the 2024 European Parliament elections, Nerudová presented herself as a pragmatic supporter of the Green Deal, emphasizing the need to adapt the agreement to the realities faced by Czech entrepreneurs and citizens.

Throughout her campaign, Nerudová maintained that abolishing the Green Deal was “absolute nonsense,” advocating instead for a pragmatic approach. She stressed the importance of predictability for entrepreneurs in the green conversion process. This stance resonated with voters who viewed the Green Deal as economically burdensome, positioning her as an opponent of unnecessary regulations.

Though, recent actions and voting patterns in the European Parliament have raised questions about whether Nerudová’s actions align with her public statements. While she has actively participated in plenary debates and addressed environmental topics, critics point to inconsistencies in her approach.

Nerudová’s Actions in the European Parliament

In June 2025, Nerudová participated in the withdrawal of a European Commission proposal deemed “nonsensical and inappropriate for entrepreneurs.” This move was praised by former Czech politician and entrepreneur Tomáš Prouza, who stated that it demonstrated the Commission’s willingness to address the concerns of entrepreneurs regarding the Green Deal.

However, MEP Ondřej Krutílek criticized Nerudová for allegedly not retreating from the Green Deal, accusing her of boasting about rejecting regulations that she herself had invented. This criticism suggests a perceived contradiction in Nerudová’s stance, potentially drawing disapproval from the Czech government and the ODS party.
