Since October 10th, the case of eight-year-old Fabian from Güstrow has concerned people not only in our region. First he disappeared without a trace, then he was found dead on October 14th in a pond near Klein Upahl. The police have not yet identified the perpetrator. The countless comments on social media such as Facebook and Instagram show how much this concerns people.

Facebook and Co.: More people are angry than afraid

Many commentators express their sadness over the violent death of the eight-year-old and their sympathy for the relatives. She is very concerned that this murder has not yet been solved. It is clear that many parents in Güstrow are afraid for their children as long as the perpetrator is not found. But even more people are expressing their anger that someone would do this to a defenseless child.

Here you will find all articles about the Fabian murder case.

The police appeal on their public WhatsApp channel Police Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: “At the moment, various rumors and speculations are circulating in a wide variety of media. We continue to ask you not to take part in these speculations. All official and verified findings will be published by the Rostock public prosecutor’s office or via our channels.

Warnings against speculation and trouble

The many speculations about how Fabian was murdered and who the perpetrator was can and should be read critically and with caution. However, they also show that the fate of the child from Güstrow moves people very much. Unfortunately, they can also be very hurtful for those involved.

“I am a mother. I am part of a family. I am part of this society. The Fabian case touches me deeply – not only as a mother, but as a person who knows how complex and vulnerable family reality can be. What shocks me is not only the tragic fate of the child, but also the way in which it is spoken about publicly. It is not just the mother who is hastily condemned – there is general judgment, evaluation, speculation. About people, about Situations about pain that you have never experienced yourself. This type of public opinion is often not helpful, but rather hurtful,” writes one user on Facebook, for example.

“I only miss one thing, an appeal to the public. The police should inform the public whether the perpetrator still poses a danger or not? That’s missing somehow,” writes a P., also on Facebook. “Anyone who gets the public on board must also inform them further. Suspects can be taken into custody if necessary – also for protection. I thought that’s what pre-trial detention is for.” The police had asked the public for information about witnesses about the Fabian case.

ETSV: “Fabian was never bullied”

The Eisenbahner Gymnastics and Sports Club Güstrow (ETSV) felt compelled to post this on Sunday: “What bothers us the most and sometimes pisses us off is all the speculation, rumors and comments on all the websites! Fabi has been training with us every week for two months. Fabi was never bullied with us, on the contrary, he was part of the team and highly respected. We don’t have bullying Association!”

And many would like the perpetrator to be caught soon and “other parents or children no longer have to live in fear.” “Every child, every person should be able to be anywhere at any time of the day or night without having to fear for their life and limb,” writes N., which certainly speaks to the hearts of many people.

The Nordkurier has deactivated the comment function on its Facebook page out of consideration for the relatives.
