Respiratory Illnesses Surge in Satu Mare County

During the week of March 17-23, 2025, Satu Mare county experienced a notable increase in acute respiratory infections. Health officials reported 1,328 cases encompassing Acute upper respiratory tract infections (IACRS), pneumonia and influenza. This spike raises concerns about public health as the region navigates the tail end of the flu season.

Despite the elevated infection rates, vaccination efforts have been underway. As of march 23, 2025, approximately 12,547 individuals considered to be in high-risk groups have received flu vaccinations, following guidance from their family physicians. Vaccination remains a crucial preventative measure, especially for vulnerable populations.

According to Instruction no. 4960/2025, published in The Official Monitor, Part I no. 251 on March 21, 2025, the alert state related to the flu has ended, leading to the following changes:

  • The mandatory wearing of protective masks in healthcare settings has been eliminated.
  • Restrictions on visiting hours for patients in medical facilities have been eased.
