“The fact that the minister decided not to give Mr Paulavičius for a second term does not mean that he is a bad employee. Perhaps he had to thank him for his work and choose another candidate, which she should not even formally reconcile, but she coordinated.
She informed me and the prime minister. And that’s it. And the story would have ended. But at some point, apparently the emotions of two people collided and what we see now began. In any case, the investigation needs to be completed and, well, we will evaluate the results of the study when we have them. The Inspector General will reveal them, ”said G. Nausėda on Monday for the LRT TELEVISION show” Theme of the Day “.
The President himself said in the activities of E. Paulavičius, under his guidance of AOTD, he did not see any problems. Thus, as emphasized by G. Nausėda, the situation, when complaints were allegedly received about E. Paulavičius’ activities in the last weeks of his work, it seems unnatural.
“All that time, as far as I worked in various formats with Mr. Paulavičius, whether he would come to present me information to me whether he would attend the meetings of the State Defense Council, presenting the material, or having encountered his activities and learning it from third parties, I never saw any problems.
Well, and naturally questions – and why did Mr Paulavičius have worked for all those few years without reproach and all that avalanche of dissatisfaction or complaints suddenly occur in his last weeks of work? This is, agree, a bit unnatural, ”said G. Nausėda.
ELTA recalls that last week it became clear that AOTD director E. Paulavičius had been removed from office and transferred to the temporary reserve of professional military service staff.
The Minister of National Defense D. Šakalienė said the latter decision was made of complaints about violations of employees’ rights. According to the minister, E. Paulavičius was informed of the transfer to the reserve on Wednesday morning, and on the same day the General Inspector began an examination of the circumstances regarding the complaints he received.

The Seimas Committee on National Security and Defense (NSGK) met with both D. Šakalienė and E. Paulavičius. According to the chairman of the committee Giedrimas Jeglinskas, the sides version of the sides were “strongly different”, so the NSGK asked the ministry to submit documents related to the removal of E. Paulavičius. However, members of the Seimas stated that the Minister’s decision on AOTD Director’s existing procedural and legal violations.
At that time, on Friday afternoon, the minister mentioned the possible pressure on the Paulavičius AOTD director for a second term.
“Regardless of the results of the investigation and pressure, the director will not be appointed for the second term,” said D. Šakalienė at a short press conference on Friday, refusing to answer questions from the reporters.
On Wednesday night, on the basis of sources information, LRT reported that Mindaugas Mažonas, a former head of Special Operations Forces (SOP), was intended to appoint the new AOTD manager.
