NASA Rover Captures Googly-Eye Eerie Eclipse on Mars
Published: [Insert Date]
A NASA rover, The Perseverance rover, has captured an eerie, googly-eye-like image of a Martian eclipse. The event, which occurred on Mars in September, was caught on camera by the latest rover of the space agency, Perserverance.
Details of the Eclipse Capture
The Perseverance rover, responsible for the googly-eye capture, has been operational on Mars since the beginning of 2021. It has spent the past several years traversing the western wall of Jezero Crater, scouring the area’s rocks and soil for evidence of past life on the red planet.
Martian Eclipse: A Nearly Daily Event
The phenomenon known as a Martian eclipse occurs almost daily, but the duration is typically limited to around 30 seconds at a time. The scene was captured during the rover’s ascent up the Jezero Crater, with Phobos, one of Mars’ two moons, appearing to peer down from the darkness. The moon Phobos orbits very close to Mars, approximately 157 times smaller in diameter than Earth’s Moon.
Previous Eclipse Captures by Rovers
This isn’t the first time images of Martian eclipses have been captured by the rovers. In 2004 and 2016, other rovers sent back images of similar events. NASA continues to study these occurrences, gaining valuable insights into the Martian sky and atmosphere.

About Perseverance and Its Mission

Perseverance’s mission is part of NASA’s broader strategy to reach Mars with human astronauts. The rover’s journey, part of the Artemis program, will pave the way for the eventual manned missions to Mars. Persverance was launched in 2020, taking around seven months to traverse the vast expanse between Earth and Mars.
