Naidu Defends Amit Shah Amidst Ambedkar Row, Jagan Silent
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N Chandrababu Naidu has defended Union Home Minister Amit Shah amidst the controversy surrounding alleged derogatory comments against Dr. B R Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution. Naidu’s Justification
Speaking during a cabinet meeting, Naidu stated that sensitive issues often attract distortions. He cited a past incident where he was wrongly accused of calling agriculture a burden, a claim he vehemently denied.
Naidu reminded that Ambedkar did not receive due recognition during the Congress regime and lost elections during that time. He pointed to the BJP government’s awarding of the Bharat Ratna to Ambedkar as a testament to their respect for the Dalit icon.
The TDP chief also highlighted that the statue of Ambedkar in Parliament was established during V.P. Singh’s tenure, prompting a discussion on who truly recognised Ambedkar’s contributions.

Interestingly, YSR Congress Party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy chose to remain silent on the controversy. Despite calls by various political parties either supporting Shah or condemning his remarks, Jagan refrained from taking a stance.
