The Saudi Arabian government welcomed the United States’ decision to designate three branches of the Muslim Brotherhood in the Middle East as terrorist organizations.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia welcomes the classification by the United States of the Muslim Brotherhood’s branches in Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon as a terrorist group,” the Saudi foreign ministry said in a statement, reported Al ArabiyaThursday (15/1/2026).
The statement further reiterated Saudi Arabia’s condemnation of extremism and terrorism, underscoring its support to all those who help build stability and prosperity in the Arab world and around the world.

Previously, United States President Donald Trump had designated the Muslim Brotherhood branches in Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon as terrorist organizations. Trump imposed sanctions on the group and its members in all three countries.
The official determination was announced by the US Treasury Department and the US Department of State on Tuesday (13/1) local time. It was said by the US Treasury Department and the US State Department in their announcement that the group poses risks to the US and American interests in the region.
“This designation reflects the initial actions of ongoing efforts to thwart violence and destabilization perpetrated by Muslim Brotherhood branches wherever it occurs,” US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a statement.
“The United States will use all available tools to deprive these Muslim Brotherhood branches of their resources to engage in or support terrorism,” he stressed.
The Muslim Brotherhood was founded in Egypt in 1928 and spread to various parts of the world in the following decades. This organization was banned in Egypt in 2013.
Praise was offered by Egyptian authorities, who called the US move an “important step” in countering extremism. Egypt’s Foreign Ministry, in a statement, said the decision “reflects the danger of this group and its extremist ideology, as well as the direct threat it poses to regional and international security and stability.”
